Day Line

LOGO DESIGN • BRANDING • VISUAL IDENTITY

The Day Line is a new waterfront restaurant in Coxsackie, New York. It draws the inspiration for its name from an old ship line that brought passengers up and down the Hudson River.

Objective

The clients wanted a brand that conveyed the rich history of the Day Line while communicating an upscale dining experience.

Solution

I settled on replicating a flag that flew over several of the ships in the Day Line. I created a new monograph for the flag’s rampart. This would also be used for various brand elements. This was paired with a wide slab serif that gives the feeling of the decks of the ship. The supporting font was chosen as this is the same font used across all the brands on the property (James Newbury Hotel, The Wire Event Center, and Patrick Henry’s). The helps this brand feel at home with the other properties.

To bring in more historical elements to the visual identity, I created illustrations of one of the iterations of the Day Line ships. Stamps based on tickets and nautical themes added to the brand tool kit.

This project was through my work with Smith & Co.
