90-Miler 40th Anniversary

LOGO DESIGN • MERCHANDISE • BADGE DESIGN

The Adirondack Canoe Classic aka, “The 90-miler” is an annual canoe race that takes place every fall in the Adirondacks. Paddlers leave from Old Forge and paddle their way through lakes, ponds, and streams to Saranac Lake over three days.

Objective

The organizers wanted a special mark created for the 40th anniversary that could be used on special merchandise. It would be screen printed and embroidered on shirts, hats, hoodies, and a variety of different items. It would also need to align somewhat to the existing brand.

This meant that the design needed to be simple and clear so that it could be easily and affordably utilized.

Solution

I settled on a badge-style design and used the green hues from the NFCT logo to start. To add more contrast to the important text, I added black and a beige color to fill out the palette.

The inspiration for the design is based off the morning starts, when hundreds of canoes cut across the still waters as the sun rises. It’s an impressive site.

To facilitate usage on hats, the client requested that a version be created that was a horizontal oval to fit the space better.

This project was completed through my position as the Senior Designer at the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism.
